Welcome

The next GDR2026 “Gas Hydrates” Days will take place from November 25 (2:00 pm) to November 27 (12:00 pm), 2025, in Besançon.

After Lille in 2024, we look forward to welcoming you in Besançon at the Ibis Styles Hotel, 22bis rue de Trey, 25000 Besançon, France.

The research topics developed within the GDR “Gas Hydrates” are organized around four main areas (https://hydrates.cnrs.fr/les-poles/):

  • Molecular Sciences: this theme aims to deepen our understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in hydrates (phase equilibrium, formation/dissociation mechanisms, transport, selectivity, and molecular dynamics).

  • Process Engineering: this theme covers technological applications such as gas storage and transport, gas or liquid effluent capture and separation, desalination and leachate treatment, as well as thermal and refrigeration applications.

  • Geosciences: this theme addresses issues related to hydrate formation in natural sedimentary environments on continental margins and in the subsurface of polar regions.

  • Astrophysics and Planetology: this theme focuses on the study of questions related to the formation of the primitive elements that gave rise to bodies in the solar system. It includes the study of hydrate formation from volatile compounds under extreme conditions (low temperature) and at both low and high pressures.

Invited talks

The preliminary program of the “Hydrates 2025” Days will be published shortly. Please already note the following invited lectures:

  • Thomas LOERTING, Institute of Physical Chemistry – University of Innsbruck, Austria (Molecular Sciences)

  • Roberto BINI, Dipartimento di Chimica “Ugo Schiff” – Università di Firenze, Florence, Italy (Astrophysics and Planetology)

  • Andreia PLAZA-FAVEROLA, iC3: Centre for Ice, Cryosphere, Carbon and Climate – The Arctic University of Norway, Norway (Geosciences)

  • Nicolas VON SOLMS, Center for Energy Resources Engineering (CERE) – Technical University of Denmark, Denmark (Process Engineering)
